In 2019, Pop Smoke dropped "Meet The Woo" & shifted the sound that NYC was known for. Hard hitting 808s with a hazy back drop of synths with rapid and aggressive lyricism as opposed to the slower boom bap style we all know & love. It’s now 2024, a new sound has emerged with Cash Cobain & the “Slizzys” as its champion. A new genre, "Sexy Drill" has taken NY by storm & inspired new artists in the same way Pop did. What makes it even better is that Cash comes from the Bronx, the birthplace of the genre we all know & love.
Cash initially started the movement on the production side but now has one of the biggest hits in America with “Fisherrr”. Which garned him a feature from Grammy nominated Ice Spice. Upcoming artists like Diany Dior, Wolfaccejoeyy, R2R Moe have joined in with viral records like “Favorite Lady” & “There4U”. The sound is not just wavy but refreshing compared to music that has recently been popular in NYC. Different from the high energy of getting sturdy from classic Drill music, people use their arms to simulate waves as they vibe from side to side reminiscent of hula dancing but with a NY flair. Sexy Drill is clearly NY’s new signature sound & we’re excited to see where it goes.
