If you've been tapped in with me for the past couple of years, you know I have been a heavy supporter of Lola Brooke. There's not a time that I go out that someone doesn't reference me going super hard for Lola Brooke before she blew up. That said, it has been a pleasure to watch Lola grow as an artist and blossom into the real star that many of us knew she was. This past year, Lola seemed to find herself in every room she needed to be in and collaborated with a lot of dope people. From Yung Miami and Latto to Rican Da Menace and French Montana to bringing back the nostalgic feel on hit single "You". I noticed a few people mention that the Bryson Tiller record should have been released earlier in the summer. Which, I can understand but it is a love song; it dropped just in time for cuffing season. Not to mention, it was the perfect single to push before announcing an album. If you enjoyed that song, I highly recommend streaming Opp with her and Coach Joey. Lola doesn't have a lot of songs where she expresses her vulnerability in love. So it's always dope to see other sides of an artist. I remember, being super excited when Meek Mill dropped his first song where he experienced love. Nevertheless, for me, it just illustrates how versatile and relatable an artist can really get because who hasn't experienced some form of love? I often speak about wanting to hear more love songs from rappers but it doesn't always mean being in love with the opposite sex. Lola Brooke's first album Dennis' Daughter is the perfect example of someone using their love for someone outside of a partner to express vulnerability, reliability, and versatility. The project illustrates Lola's unconditional love for her father and his influence on her life even after he has passed on. Constantly making note of the fact that she wouldn't be who she was today without the trials and tribulations she had faced throughout her life. This project should motivate and inspire people everywhere that no matter where you come from, your dreams are possible. Most recently, it has been hard to find good quality bodies of work from artist but I can confidently say this is coming back. I was able to listen to the project all the way through, a few times. I was also really happy to see Lola collaborate with Coi Leray. I feel like there's always a lot of negative energy around Coi's name and it sometimes outshines her talent as an artist when she's really better than a lot of people. It was a collab, we didn't know we needed but they did what needed to be done. Listen to the full project below and let me know your thoughts:
