Individuality in Hip-Hop

When Hip-Hop began, there was this thing called “biting” & it was one of the biggest taboos in the genre. Influence quickly turned into the lack of individuality. Nobody wanted to be labeled a biter. For those, who don’t know : a biter in Hip-Hop is a copycat who failed to  pay homage.

The Importance of Individuality and Its Impact

In 2024, we gotta start calling biters out again & hopefully, just maybe, people will start doing things that are true to them. Biting can be seen all across Hip Hop today. Artists & Media alike have resorted to it in order to maintain a certain level of relevance. Have you noticed people saying a lot of artists are sounding similar lately? This is a by-product of that exact issue.

Algorithms & Clout have polluted Hip-Hop Culture into adopting a copy/paste mindset. Hip-Hop was always about being yourself to the rawest degree, & here at The Chatroom, we’d like to see everyone get back to basics.
