Ice Spice and Nicki Minaj are some Barbie Girls in the new “Barbie World”, so rip them out the plastic as they act brand new on their new trendy track! Dominating the charts after two decades, Aqua's 1997 dance pop single was sampled by Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice on "Barbie World," for the new “Barbie” movie set to hit the big screens near you! Aqua, the Norwegian/Danish 1990s pop band who created "Barbie Girl" in 1997, which has become the unofficial theme song of the Barbie doll collection, is also recognized on the new song.
The trendy track comes as their second collaboration following "Princess Diana" and the latest addition to the Barbie soundtrack for the highly anticipated live-action Barbie movie, which is set to be released on July 21st. The fiery femcees initially lit the Billboard Hot 100 top 10 up with their 'Princess Diana (Remix)”. Ice Spice invited Nicki Minaj to join the remix of her January drop off "Princess Diana" in mid-April, marking the two New York natives' first captivating collaboration.
Ice Spice and Nicki Minaj Take Fans to "Barbie World"
After the remix reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, serving as Spice's second Top 5 hit, the duo decided to reunite for another smash single. Now, the popular pair has followed up with their “Barbie” movie anthem. This time, life in plastic sounds and looks a little different. In fact, we witness the raved rhymers trading boastful bars while flying motorcycles through the city and living lavishly in a life-size dollhouse. Popping out pretty in pink, the pink-pilled visual sees Spice temporarily trade her signature ginger hair for a pink wig. Furthermore, Minaj and Spice both deliver thematically-attentive verses over the aforementioned sample while adding hip-hop drums and elements to breathe new life into the already hot hit.
Maintaining momentum and honing in on the hype, custom Nicki M and Ice Spice dolls were spotted starring in the teaser which was shot on Los Angeles’ Rodeo Drive as well. Might be wishful thinking, but maybe Mattel is providing a sneak peak with product placement… Unboxed on June 23rd, the standout single serves as a sample of Aqua's 'Barbie Girl' (who are also credited on the track).
With the reviving of the raved release courtesy of the Queen and Princess of Rap, the Aqua sampled-single debuted at #7 on the Hot 100. It accomplished this accomplishment by amassing the following first-week stats: 16.2 million streams, 4.7 million in radio reach, and 37,000 digital downloads. “Barbie World” becomes Minaj’s 23rd top 10 on the Hot 100 and Ice Spice’s fourth. It also notably serves as Aqua’s second since the single “Barbie Girl” landed the same #7 spot in 1997.
What's Next?
The victory comes ahead of the July 21 release of the “Barbie” film and soundtrack.
