Texas native formerly known as Asian Doll, recently changed her name following the controversy of the "Doll" name. If you're not familiar, there are other female rappers that use the same stage name. Some of which include Cuban Doll, Dream Doll and Kash Doll. A lot of people on social media claim that one doll copied another doll; but I personally feel as if the doll name, for all of them was influenced by Nicki Minaj. At a point in time, Nicki Minaj was the only female rapper making a mark on the industry and with the Barbie movement, I think it gave a lot of girls confidence to be themselves and become their own type of doll. Asian has actually admitted to this several times, claiming Nicki Minaj to be a big inspiration to her. Thus, there was no surprise when Asian signed to Gucci Mane's 1017 Records. Gucci Mane is said to have played a big role early on, in Nicki Minaj's career. When Asian was offered the 1017 deal, at that point in her career she could have pretty much signed to anyone but decided to follow her heart. This is definitely commendable being where the Industry is at today. When it comes to music and female rap, I would like to see a lot more respect put on Asian's name. As a blogger and Hip Hop curator, I can definitely admit to accidentally leaving Asian's name out of female rap conversations when it shouldn't be. Asian was one of the first girls from the new wave that I see come out on that "Pretty Gang Shit". When I say that, I mean the first girl that was made up and toting guns in her videos. Granted, we did have some girls from Chicago toting guns in their videos but they didn't have pink lipstick, skirts and rhinestones on their face. She inspired a lot of young girls to live in their truth. Now, talking strictly rap; Asian can out rap a lot of your favorite female rappers and she doesn't have to only talk about sexing and scamming guys to do it. In her lyrics, you can definitely put together her story which is dope being that so many artist are scared to be vulnerable these days. Asian recently released her first project under "Asian Da Brat" entitled Unfuccwitable. On the project, you can find collaborations with people like Smokepurpp, CalBoy, Smooky Margielaa, PNB Meen and many more. Stream below:
