For the past couple of years Shay Xclusive has been taking the NYC fashion scene by storm. Read below as we talk inspiration, new designers, the perfect mate and so much more.
LilMissChitChat: Who/What is your creative inspiration?
ShayXclusive: I think I'm my own creative inspiration. I honesty think about fashion and designing 25/8. I'm always thinking of ways to become a better designer. I randomly THINK of different ideas from pieces I once created thinking like how can I re-release those favorites to make them better or different..MY creative inspiration also comes from the vibe and energy I get when I'm sewing. I've noticed when I'm hurting or going through things, I tend to take that anger out on my sewing and end up creating some of my dopest pieces ever.
LilMissChitChat: What do you think sets you aside from other new designers?
ShayXclusive: I would have to say my originality. Alot of new designers I come across are not original at all. They're scared of what people will say or think about their pieces. I personally don't care what anyone thinks. I've made so many non believers in my work actual believers. I started so many trends just off simply being original and passionate that I don't think anyone can stop me.
LilMissChitChat: At what point did you know that designing was definitely going to be your career path?
ShayXclusive: Funny you ask that because I originally wanted to be a lawyer. Unfortunately, I was thrown a curve ball because due to me being so small I always had issues finding clothes that I actually liked in my size. I then decided that I would create my own pieces for myself. It started off as my friends and I just wearing my pieces but before I knew it everyone wanted a SXNYC original.
LilMissChitChat: Are there any major brands that you think you may cause competition for?
ShayXclusive: NONE AT ALL SIMPLE!!!
LilMissChitChat: What celebrity would you like to see in one of your pieces?
ShayXclusive: NUMBER ONE CELEB WOULD BE FAB HIS SWAGG IS OUTTA CONTROL. I FEEL LIKE HE WOULD LEGIT BODY ANYTHING I THROW HIS WAY.
LilMissChitChat: How would you define your personal style?
ShayXclusive: My style is me I dress like myself. Some days I wear 1000 colors, some days I'm in one color. I dress to be comfortable. I love over sized BOMBERS. I love vintage sneakers, nice frames and vintage hats. I'm also not very flashy when dressing.
LilMissChitChat: What do you think is your most attractive trait?
ShayXclusive: I'm going to have to say my smile and personality. I love to make people laugh, I'm sp full of life and such a vibrant happy perso. It takes a lot of GET me angry. Also, unlike other I would give my last to anyone that needs it more than I do.
LilMissChitChat: What do you look for in a mate?
ShayXclusive: Damn, I hate you for this question but I'm not going to get to crazy. Ummmm me personally I love natural beauty, that's key with me. Personality is everything to me and just someone who matches my fly, my hunger for success, a go getter... someone chasing a dream, someone with goals, someone who grinds as hard as me. LilMissChitChat: Could you see yourself dating someone who wasn't fashionably inclined?
ShayXclusive: PROBABLY NOT LOL
LilMissChitChat: If you could sit down and have dinner with anyone who would it be?
ShayXclusive: IT WOULD BE MY GRANDMOTHER RIP TO HER BUT I WOULD JUST WANT TO ENJOY HER N TELL HER ABOUT MY ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND JUST HUG HER THANK HER FOR KEEPING ME FOCUS AND POSITIVE AT ALL TIMES SHE WAS MY HEART AND SOMETIMES I WISH I WAS ABLE TO SIT DOWN EAT AND TALK WITH HER.
LilMissChitChat: What do you think is your greatest strength?
ShayXclusive: MY ORIGINALITY, MY MARKETING, MY ABILITY TO CREATE, MY ABILITY TO SEPARATE MYSELF FROM OTHER DESIGNERS, MY FOCUS, MY STRONG HUNGER FOR FASHION, MY MIND SET AND THE WAY I GO ABOUT THINGS.
