Over the weekend, I had the pleasure of attending a private ribbon cutting ceremony for Big Media Entertainment's first store front. The room was filled with great energy, amazing food and super strong pina coladas. In attendance were radio personalities, fashion designers, stylists, entrepernuers and so much more. The event was sponsored by myself, Bacchanal Fever, Power Luxury Radio dispatch, Q shepard, MAE, Dormtoom TV and Whats The Move. Through all the madness I had the chance to sit down with the owner Shana Mena and ask her a few questions, check it out:
LMCC- What is Big Media Entertainment and what do you offer your clients?
Shana- Big Media Entertainment is a production company. The services that I offer are photography, videography and graphic design.
LMCC- What made you want to start your own business?
Shana- The money I spent on college... I always had the mindset that I can't work for someone else. All the knowledge that I acquired from going to school I rather put it all into building my own brand and business.
LMCC- How do you feel about other female entrepernuers?
Shana- I strongly encourage it. I would actually like to work with more female entrepernuers. I think its a beautiful thing. We need to show the world that women are powerful enough to run our own businesses. I feel like our vision is just different.
LMCC - What advice would you give a girl thinking about opening her own business?
Shana - I would say two things. First and foremost believe in yourself. Once you believe in yourself everything will fall in place the money, the relationships, the networking... EVERYTHING! Secondly, consistency. Keep being consistent. You can't say your starting a busines, promote it one week then the next week no one hears about it. When people see you're serious, they will take you serious.
LMCC - If you could sit down with anyone dead or alive, who would it be?
Shana- My favorite is definitly Jay-z, I have always been a fan of him. Dead.. definitely Steve Jobs he's just amazing. And ofcourse Oprah, I want to be where shes at.
LMCC- If you had to choose between true love and your business being exactly where you wanted to be, what would you choose?
Shana- I'm lucky to have been blessed with both but I would have to say love. I feel like love is hard to come by. Business may be stressful at times but if you have real love, you'll be okay.
LMCC- If you had 24 hours to live, what would you do?
Shana - 24 Hours... Well definitely get drunk. I would try to meet everyone and spread as much knowledge as I can before I go. I would just try to live my life to the fullest and do everything possible.
LMCC- Where do you hope to be in 5 years?
Shana- I would hope that my business has multiple locations. I would like to branch off to Miami and Atlanta. Those are both places I would also like to move. I would like to create a whole bunch of job oppurtunities and also start my non profit organization "More to Life".
LMCC- What is the ultimate goal for BME?
Shana- To make it bigger than what it is. Spread the word to everyone and branch off to be more than just a production company.I want to be a foundation for communities.
